The tower is open to the public but is only accessible by boat. Rock Island is open to visitors seasonally and is maintained by New York State Parks. The lighthouse keepers house has been converted into a museum and gift shop. If you are lucky, you can catch a freighter ship passing the island during your visit. This is a sister lighthouse to the Sunken Rock Lighthouse located a short distance down the Saint Lawrence River.
